To the final heat of the TOI-TOI Cup, where the National Champion of the Czech Republic was also to be determined, I went with a clear mind. In view of my recent health problems no one seemed to count with me too much, so I had nothing to lose.
Nevertheless, finally I started to have good legs, and I also liked the course. And I was particularly excited by the superb atmosphere that was created by great fans during the event. In such conditions racing is a real joy.
The race was very tactical, but fair and just. For the most part of it I rode in a group of three, with Zdeněk Štybar and Radomír Šimůnek. Occasionally, we engaged in almost contact fighting, but always in a fair play fashion. I think that after my mechanical the two could have entered a combat of two. But they probably didn´t feel like riding, which helped me catch up with them.
In the penultimate lap Štyby made a decisive breakaway, letting us fight for silver. But to beat Šimon in a sprint is a gigantic task, so I remained just a figurant.
I´m glad about the podium, especially because I´ve managed to put myself together as far as health is concerned. It´s super that the Czech national champion´s jersey has remained in the Fidea team, and Štyby will be showing it to the world cyclocross elite.
Finally, I want to thank to all who helped me come back. Thanks for the support to my fan club, family members and all my supporters. You were great !!!
Best regards
